ASSESSMENT: ¨ Full, comprehensive and biomechanical QUESTIONS QUESTIONS QUESTIONS We have to get to know you and how your pain behaves: ¨ Take a detailed history including how your problem started – what makes it worse and things you have done to make it better ¨ How you spend your day (and night!) ¨ Your medical history Then we examine you (carefully without causing any more pain!) ¨ Have a good look at how you hold yourself – your posture ¨ Check on the movements of each joint involved, watch how the muscles are working (or not!) ¨ Palpate the muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints involved for tenderness and scarring. It all adds up to give us a picture of what part of your body is damaged and how we will get it better. We discuss with you ¨ the “probable” diagnosis ¨ if you need more investigation ¨ a description of the treatment plan that will be used to help you recover ¨ how long it will take Before we start we have to get your consent to continue with the plan so that you agree to our choice of treatment. It is a joint effort, you will need to commit yourself to exercises, changing the way you perform normal daily activities and keeping a positive attitude toward healing – and we will have to treat you with the best techniques and skill our experience can give. |
