CLINICAL PILATES:  A gift of extreme grace and balance

¨       Created by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s, traditionally used by Dancers and Actors

¨       Now extending successfully to people with problem spines and non-healing injuries

¨       Can be graduated for any level of fitness and disability

¨       Incorporated by many top athletes and sportsmen/women into their training.

¨       Merges the science and art of movement, recognising that the body and mind are integral to the       formation of the whole being

¨       Exercises are taught 1:1 with specific verbalisation and tactile feedback on mats and a range of       specially designed equipment – ‘Cadillac’ ‘Reformer’ and ‘Multichair’ add resistance through       springs – challenging the limbs while the trunk is supported

¨       Full concentration and control of breathing patterns/diaphragm are the focus for optimal energy       transference

¨       Deep trunk muscles are controlled and isolated in a core cylinder as limbs perform co-ordinated,      flowing motion with precision and grace.

¨      Through motor control reprogramming spinal segments learn to articulate and integrate with shoulder      girdle, pelvis, upper and lower limbs.

¨       Weight bearing and spinal axial elongation with correct body alignment ensure the body can cope      with the demands of functional daily activity.

¨       A prerequisite to starting any training fitness program and essential to maintaining peak performance

Time to wake up and say hello to your body!
